I heard him mutter around 3 but it wasn’t loud enough for me to get up.

is right, we need a better vent.
@calvinsdad: I don’t think our current vent is even up to the challenge of delicately simmering soups.
Context: One morning I was driving down to Mountain View and listening to the local Bollywood stations. There was an ad from a company that sold kitchen exhaust vents which proudly said they could handle more than delicately simmering soups.
