I’m up but still pretty groggy. Not sure why, last night wasn’t too bad.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2009 9:30 AM
Finished trying to breastfeed Calvin now working on pumping.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2009 9:40 AM
Calvin’s tear ducts now appearing to be functioning.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2009 10:08 AM
Calvin’s sleeping for the moment so I’m going to try taking a mini-nap.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2009 11:36 AM
Pumping again then running off to another appointment.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2009 2:51 PM
Just finished feeding again. This one didn’t feel as good as the morning did but still managed 10 min each side. Now pumping again.

2010

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 7:42 AM
Calvin didn’t get up till 7:15 today which is probably good considering the short nap yesterday.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 7:50 AM
Calvin’s breakfast for the last couple of days has been a fruit puree combined with little pieces of French toast with Almond butter.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 7:50 AM
This appears to be an acceptable compromise to him between feeding himself and me feeding him.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 7:50 AM
I think tomorrow we might try Quinoa pancakes with Peanut Butter.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 2:49 PM
I think very soon now Calvin is going to insist walking everywhere by himself.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 3:15 PM
It appears I cannot convince Calvin that the healthier crackers taste better.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 3:22 PM
Calvins seems to like the quinoa pancakes I made him.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 4:17 PM
Could Calvin be in the terrible 2s already?

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2010 6:13 PM
Calvin is eating spinach. I wasn’t going to give it to him but he insisted *shrug*

2011

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2011 8:00 AM
Calvin’s requesting broccoli for breakfast. #proudparent

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2011 4:54 PM
Calvin didn’t nap this afternoon. I’m tired.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2011 5:31 PM
From daycare: “Calvin colored on large paper at the table – he liked changing crayons the most.”

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2011 7:02 PM
It’s been a long day. I’m leaving the bedtime routine to @calvinsdad and trying to relax with a cup of hot chocolate.

2012

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2012 6:11 PM
I have the kitchen and baths cleaned at our old house. Still need to do vacuuming and basement (scary).

2013

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2013 3:08 PM
On our way to the beach. Calvin is *very* excited.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2013 3:56 PM
I made a mistake not bringing sunglasses to the NW with me. Who would have guessed?

2015

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2015 7:09 AM
Breathing scrambled tofu is not advised.

Good to know info in renter’s policy, “Discharge of a nuclear weapon will be deemed a warlike act, even if accidental”

2017

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2017 7:30 AM
I’m missing something. Surely the iOS timer can do more than just whole minutes!?

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2017 7:31 AM
Uh-huh. Apparently I have to use Siri for this. I don’t like talking out loud :(

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2017 11:17 AM
We’re at Parkside Aquatic Park. Playground, sand, water, and airplanes. Something for everyone.

Julian on a playground rope bridge. He's dressed in a bright red shirt, with a sun hat, and has his hand reaching out toward the camera. He's clearly very unhappy.

2018

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2018 9:47 AM
Julian is still sleeping, after a truly atrocious night, and it’s making me nervous.

[He was waking up every 1-2 hours.]

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2018 10:42 AM
Julian loves the Boynton _Blue Hat, Green Hat_ app. One page allows you to pull out all Turkey’s clothes and dress him. This creates a mess. Last night Julian insisted we had to clean up Turkey’s room before moving to the next page.

2019

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 7:25 AM
Ok, that’s a little terrifying. I just discovered an account where I used real answers for the security questions.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 8:36 AM
I saw the TechCrunch article about Apple removing certain parental control apps from their iOS store. I have some feelings about this.

https://techcrunch.com/2019/04/28/apple-defends-its-takedown-of-some-apps-monitoring-screen-time/

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 8:38 AM
1) How did Apple not realize parental control apps were using MDMs till “last year”!? Seriously, does no one at Apple have children? My first exposure to it was in 2015.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 8:40 AM
2) “Parents shouldn’t have to trade their fears of their children’s device usage for risks to privacy and security” Yes, I completely agree except Apple gave us no alternative for YEARS. This is why oldest son has a Kindle even though I loath it.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 8:53 AM
Oh, and in case @Apple is wondering why these parental control apps decided to use MDMs, it’s because kids are crafty. The non-MDM solutions, at least in 2015, were way too easy for kids to work around.

Very good points in this, especially around safety and trip-chaining. Another aspect I use to run into was elevators. Maybe other places are different but BART’s were broken often enough you couldn’t rely on them for strollers. https://www.londonreconnections.com/2019/mind-the-gender-gap-the-hidden-data-gap-in-transport/

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2019 6:42 PM
The house was hot tonight so we’re having homemade strawberry ice cream.

2020

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2020 9:16 AM
We’re trying a different school schedule today. Calvin does school work during specific periods but gets to choose what. If he finishes it all early, he’s done for the day. We’ll see how this goes.

White board with a schedule on it. In green, it shows the date as 4/29/2023. It says 9:00 Schoolwork. 9:30 schoolwork. 10:00 class meeting. 11:00 schoolwork. 11:30 exercise. 12:00 lunch/break. 1:00 math meeting or schoolwork. 2:00 schoolwork. 2:30 break. 2:45 schoolwork. 3:15 submit checklist.. In blue marker, on the right side of the board, it says: activities (check when done). Taco truck (lesson 1-3). math group meeting (optional). Harry Potter and/or other book. Journal. IXL (optional). Science Netflix or ecosystems. Jamestown prewriting. Art kanopy Video. End of day checklist.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2020 9:19 AM
Yesterday Calvin hyper focused on exactly one school subject, his taco truck math project, and didn’t get anything else done. Upon reflection, I realized that’s how I work sometimes too. So, we’ll see if this plan is better at flexing.

Kiesa @spreadsheetmom Apr 29, 2020 4:52 PM
Throughout the years I have sometimes felt a tad guilty for having so many children’s books when I work at a library and can always check out as many as we need. Not anymore. We’re at the point where Julian is scrounging our stacks looking for new books.
